Qualitative similarities and differences in visual object representations between brains and deep networks

چکیده
Abstract Deep neural networks have revolutionized computer vision, and their object representations across layers match coarsely with visual cortical areas in the brain. However, whether these exhibit qualitative patterns seen human perception or brain remains unresolved. Here, we recast well-known perceptual phenomena terms of distance comparisons, ask they are present feedforward deep trained for recognition. Some were randomly initialized networks, such as global advantage effect, sparseness, relative size. Many others after recognition training, Thatcher mirror confusion, Weber’s law, size, multiple normalization correlated sparseness. Yet other absent 3D shape processing, surface invariance, occlusion, natural parts advantage. These findings indicate sufficient conditions emergence brains offer clues to properties that could be incorporated improve networks.

Background and purpose: The boundary between bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder has always been a matter of debate. Despite the importance of this issue, only a few studies have directly compared these two groups. The main purpose of this study was to compare the cognitive profile of patients with bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder in terms of attentional bia...
متن کاملDifferences between Spatial and Visual Mental Representations
This article investigates the relationship between visual mental representations and spatial mental representations in human visuo-spatial processing. By comparing two common theories of visuo-spatial processing - mental model theory and the theory of mental imagery - we identified two open questions: (1) which representations are modality-specific, and (2) what is the role of the two represent...
